As a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, I know that "getting back to the green" is not just a feel-good thing. There is solid research outlining how nature is critical to our health and well-being. It's truly the body's ultimate medicine. When we take time to step away from city noise, electronics, and other loud distractions, there are incredible benefits.

As professionals, many of us are often stuck inside cubicles and offices, putting in long hours, where the sight of daylight is considered a "perk". We begin to lose our roots and our connection to the world around us, and that is simply dangerous for our health. I encourage you to make a commitment to get back to nature, especially now that spring has arrived and summer is just around the corner. Bring Nature Indoors

If you don’t have regular access to nature, consider bringing it indoors with you. Plants are the most obvious way to do this. However, one study showed that people who had paintings or posters of outdoor scenery in their homes experienced more stress release. They were able to tackle more difficult tasks than those who had photos of urban scenery in their home. Nature sounds have the same affect, too, so tune into the tunes of babbling brooks or waterfalls instead of your normal radio station.

Take Your Workout Outdoors

Here at RunFit MKE, we have a bright and open studio that overlooks historic downtown Milwaukee. That doesn't mean we don't take our workout outdoors from time to time.
